94 Bandra Garib Nagar Families Get Homes Under e-Punarvasan

Ninety-four of the 100 eligible families in Bandra's Garib Nagar received possession letters for new homes on October 1-2, in the first rollout of MMRDA's digital rehabilitation system.
The allotments were made under e-Punarvasan, the new digital system for rehabilitation and resettlement. MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee oversaw the process.
The families were displaced by the Western Railway's demolition drive in May, which cleared the settlement for infrastructure work.
The e-Punarvasan system digitises the entire resettlement process — from eligibility verification to allotment — reducing the paperwork and delays that have plagued such drives.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has backed the digital approach, saying it brings transparency to rehabilitation.
For the families, the letters end months of uncertainty. Many had been living in temporary arrangements since the demolition.
Six eligible families are still awaiting their letters. Officials say their cases are being processed.
The Garib Nagar rollout is being watched as a pilot. If it works smoothly, e-Punarvasan could become the template for resettlement across Mumbai's infrastructure projects.
