Mizzou Freshman Recovering After Heart Transplant

Missouri freshman Johnnie "DJ" Jones received a heart transplant on Wednesday night, and his surgery went well. He is now recovering.
Coach Eli Drinkwitz shared the update on X on Thursday morning. "Last night, DJ received his heart transplant, and his surgery went well. He is now recovering," he posted.
A heart issue was discovered during freshman intake, and the Tigers staff monitored him for two weeks. He was then sent to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where doctors found a more significant problem.
Last week, the team learned that Jones had been placed on the heart transplant list. Drinkwitz was visibly emotional discussing the 18-year-old earlier in the week.
The Tigers went on to rout Florida in a statement win after getting the news. Whether Jones will ever play football again is unknown, and right now that is not the most important thing."" The Missouri community has rallied around Jones and his family. Teammates dedicated the Florida win to him. Doctors say his recovery will take time and continued monitoring.
