Rajasthan’s iconic Palace on Wheels has begun its 2026-27 tourist season with a sold-out inaugural journey. The luxury train was flagged off from Delhi’s Safdarjung station with 77 passengers on board, including international tourists.

The first run carried travellers from the United States and other countries on the classic eight-day circuit. The route covers Jaipur, Ranthambore, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra before returning to Delhi.

This season, the train sports refreshed interiors with Sheesh Mahal-inspired glasswork and upgraded lighting. Officials said the makeover aims to give guests the feeling of living inside a royal palace while crossing the desert.

Fares start at around $6,000 per person for the low season in a deluxe cabin. With heritage travel booming, the railway expects strong bookings through the winter months. The train has run since 1982 and remains India’s most famous luxury rail journey. Onboard, guests enjoy fine dining, a spa, Wi-Fi and personal attendants. The train’s coaches draw inspiration from the royal carriages of Rajasthan’s former princely states.
