Auqib Nabi’s Debut Turns Nightmare: 84 Runs, Worst Economy

Auqib Nabi’s India debut turned into a nightmare on Wednesday as the Jammu and Kashmir pacer conceded 84 runs in the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati.
Handed his maiden cap by KL Rahul, Nabi replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing eleven. He bowled 8.5 overs for 84 runs and was hit for nine fours and a six.
The 84 runs are the most conceded by an Indian bowler on ODI debut, going past Karsan Ghavri’s 83 against England at Lord’s in 1975.
His economy rate of 9.51 is also the worst by an Indian on ODI debut among bowlers who delivered at least 30 balls, according to Cricbuzz.
Nabi is only the third cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play for India, after Parvez Rasool and Umran Malik. He took 60 wickets in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy to lead J&K to their maiden title.
Why it matters: one brutal evening does not erase a stellar domestic season, and India will judge him on the comeback.
