Uplifting stories: libraries, saplings and women-led villages

Three stories of change stood out this week. In Uttarakhand's Seem village, retired couple Jaya and Atul Shah turned 17 donated books into the Happy Children's Library. It now holds 1,400 books in Hindi and English, runs workshops and games, and has inspired five new libraries in nearby villages, according to The Better India. Over 400 children visit the library.
In Pune, Tata Motors employee Bholeshwar Palange has spent 25 years growing saplings in a parking-lot nursery. He has planted over one lakh saplings and given them away free to individuals, societies and NGOs, The Better India reported.
In Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, women sarpanches — village council heads — are transforming their villages. One rescued a child bride, another fought caste discrimination, and a third led menstrual health drives, according to The Better India.
These leaders have set up women's councils and brought more women into village decision-making.
These stories show how small, steady efforts can change entire communities.
