The Supreme Court has given actor Rajpal Yadav two more weeks to deposit Rs 5 crore with the court registry. The order came in seven cheque-bounce cases linked to his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana extended Yadav's protection from surrender until October 5. The Delhi High Court had upheld his conviction in July, sentencing him to three months in jail in each case.

The court expressed scepticism about Yadav's past conduct. The Chief Justice remarked that it hoped the actor was "not acting here also". Yadav's counsel said the actor had no money and proposed selling his mother's property to raise the amount.

The court also directed Yadav to surrender his passport to the registry in the meantime. The dispute stems from loans taken from Murli Projects Pvt Ltd for the film.

At the next hearing on October 5, the court will review whether he has complied with the deposit order.
