Softball rivals discover they are long-lost sisters in Montana

A Montana softball tournament brought together two sisters who had never met. Samantha Rensvold, 19, and Kyann Dean, 18, were playing on opposing teams when a teammate noticed how much they looked alike. Rensvold, who is adopted, knew she had a younger biological sister. But the closed adoption meant she did not know where her sister was or what she looked like. She first played against Dean last August in Belgrade, Montana. After the game, Rensvold told her mother about the resemblance. They checked the tournament roster and saw the name Kyann. Rensvold’s mother recognized it as the name her birth mother had given her younger daughter. “That has to be your sister. That’s not a coincidence,” she said. The mothers compared the name of their biological mother and the hospital where the girls were born. Everything matched. The two were adopted as babies by separate families and grew up about 400 miles apart. When they finally met, they shook hands in shock on the softball field.
