989 MCD buildings to go solar in NTPC NVVN tie-up

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will install rooftop solar plants on 989 municipal buildings. The project is expected to generate 10 to 15 MW of solar capacity.
MCD has partnered with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam under the RESCO model. NVVN will handle installation, operation and maintenance at no upfront cost to MCD.
The civic body will repay through a fixed tariff under a power purchase agreement. The indicative tariff ranges from Rs 4.25 to Rs 4.92 per unit.
MCD currently has 574 solar plants with 13.25 MWp capacity on its buildings. The new plan will nearly double its solar footprint.
The move cuts the corporation’s power bills and its reliance on conventional energy. It also supports India’s clean energy targets under its climate commitments.
An earlier NVVN agreement between 2022 and 2024 delivered 26 rooftop plants of 1.08 MWp. The MNRE has named NTPC as the implementing agency for Delhi rooftop solar. The plan supports India’s climate commitments under the UN framework.
