Journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were allowed back into the White House on Thursday, six days after President Donald Trump banned the outlets, following a federal court order.

US District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order on Sept. 24, directing the administration to “immediately return, reinstate, and restore” the outlets’ hard-pass press credentials. He ruled the revocation “likely violated their constitutional due process rights.”

Kelly, appointed by Trump in 2017, was skeptical of the administration’s national security justification. “Nothing in the record” suggested the ban was driven by such concerns, he wrote, noting Trump had said the outlets were barred over false or negative coverage.

The three organizations sued on Sept. 21 after Trump announced the ban on Sept. 18, accusing them of reporting “fake news.” Their reporters were initially turned away again Thursday morning before being admitted around midday.

Despite the ruling, CNN and MS NOW said two of their journalists were still denied access to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s arrival at the White House for a state dinner on Thursday evening.
