Assam’s Manas National Park reopens after monsoon break

Assam’s Manas National Park has reopened to tourists for the 2026-27 season after its annual monsoon closure.
A special programme was held at the park’s second main entrance on October 2 to mark the start of the season, park officials said. The park stays closed each year from June through September.
Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a tiger reserve and a biosphere reserve. It is home to Royal Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, one-horned rhinos, golden langurs and pygmy hogs.
The park hosts more than 450 bird species, making it one of the richest bird habitats in the Northeast.
Jeep safaris, elephant safaris and guided nature walks will resume. Visitors should note weekly closures: the Bansbari range shuts on Tuesdays, Bhuyanpara on Thursdays, Panbari on Fridays and Kuklung on Wednesdays.
Assam’s wildlife tourism is rising. Kaziranga recorded 4.58 lakh visitors in 2025-26, up from 4.22 lakh the previous year.
