Sri Lanka court refuses arrest warrants for two Indian directors

A Sri Lankan court has refused to issue arrest warrants for two Indian directors in a bribery case. The Colombo Chief Magistrate gave the order on October 2. The court cited a lack of evidence.
The case involves the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, known as CIABOC. It sought warrants for two former directors of the Krrish Group in India. They were notified by email and air mail but did not respond.
The court asked CIABOC to file a report covering the evidence for the warrants. The case concerns an alleged bribe of 70 million Sri Lankan rupees in 2013. It is linked to a stalled hotel project in Colombo.
Opposition politician Namal Rajapaksa is accused of accepting the bribe. He is the elder son of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa. Rajapaksa says the money was sponsorship for a 2014 rugby event. He is currently in remand until October 13 in this case.
