Pranavi Urs clinches India’s first women’s golf gold

Twenty-three-year-old Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games.
Pranavi’s victory gave India its first continental golf title in the women’s event. She was named among the standout stories of India’s campaign alongside 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod.
The gold came during a remarkable final stretch for India in Aichi-Nagoya. Eleven of the country’s 21 gold medals arrived in the last two days, lifting India to fourth place on the medal table with 85 medals in total.
India’s final tally read 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. It is the country’s second-best Asian Games performance, behind only the 106 medals won at Hangzhou 2023.
The golf gold adds to a list of historic firsts for India at these Games, including the women’s hockey team’s first title in 44 years and back-to-back cricket golds for the men’s team.
