Kumkum Mohod wins India’s first women’s recurve archery gold

Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve archery gold medal at the Asian Games.
Kumkum’s triumph was one of the standout stories of India’s campaign in Aichi-Nagoya. She handled the pressure of a major final to claim a historic title for Indian archery.
Archery was India’s most successful discipline in terms of gold medals, contributing five to the tally. The result underlines the depth emerging in Indian archery beyond its established stars.
India finished the Games with 85 medals, including 21 gold, to take fourth place on the overall table. Eleven of the 21 gold medals came in the final two days of competition.
Kumkum’s gold, along with golfer Pranavi Urs’s historic win and the hockey teams’ triumphs, made the closing days of the Games among the most memorable in India’s Asian Games history. China, Japan and South Korea finished first, second and third on the medal table.
