India name squads for Zimbabwe series under Mandhana

India have named their squads for the first-ever bilateral women’s series against Zimbabwe, with Smriti Mandhana as permanent captain across formats. Mandhana took over after Harmanpreet Kaur resigned from the captaincy following India’s group-stage exit at the T20 World Cup in England in June. Shafali Verma will be Mandhana’s deputy in the T20Is, while Deepti Sharma is the ODI vice-captain. The three T20Is will be played in Raipur on October 16, 18 and 20, all starting at 7 pm IST. The ODIs move to Vadodara on October 23, 25 and 28, starting at 2 pm. Niki Prasad earned a maiden call-up after strong India A performances. Harmanpreet remains in the squad as a player. Jemimah Rodrigues is absent, still recovering from injury. Richa Ghosh keeps the gloves in both formats. Mandhana and Rodrigues paid tributes to Harmanpreet on Wednesday after her decade-long leadership ended. Harmanpreet led India to the ODI World Cup title last year and Asian Games gold.
