Iyer century powers India to 8-wicket win over West Indies

Captain Shreyas Iyer struck a maiden T20I century as India beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I in Lucknow on Tuesday. Iyer made an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, with 10 fours and six sixes, as India chased 172 with 32 balls to spare. India had slipped to 35 for two when Iyer walked in. He added an unbroken 137 with Ishan Kishan, who made 37 not out. Iyer reached his hundred in just 42 balls, the second-fastest T20I century against the West Indies. He became the third Indian captain to score a T20I hundred, after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. He also broke Virat Kohli’s record for the highest score by an Indian captain in a T20I chase. Earlier, debutant Naman Dhir took three wickets as the West Indies were bowled out for 171. Shai Hope made 52 and Sherfane Rutherford 56. Iyer was named captain after the 2026 T20 World Cup, replacing Suryakumar Yadav. India lead the five-match series 1-0.
