India’s Men and Women Sweep Kabaddi Gold at Asian Games
India completed a golden double in kabaddi at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya on September 26, with both the men's and women's teams defeating Iran in the finals. It was a successful title defence for both sides.
The women's team struck first, edging Iran 37-34 in a tight final. India led 22-16 at half-time before Iran fought back in the second half. The first-half advantage proved decisive as India held on.
The men then beat Iran 40-34. The scores were level at 20-20 before India pulled ahead in the second half. Captain Sunil Kumar's side showed strong defence and sharp raiding to seal a six-point win.
The men's triumph was India's ninth Asian Games kabaddi gold, a record. India had won seven straight titles before Iran ended the run in 2018. The women defended the crown they reclaimed in Hangzhou. The two wins were India's third and fourth gold medals of the Games.
