Opposition parties of the INDIA bloc are likely to meet in New Delhi on September 30 to discuss the row over the Election Commission of India and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The SIR is the poll body's ongoing exercise to update and clean up voter lists.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on September 26 that she had sent a message to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urging the opposition to sit together. She said the meeting would most likely be held at the Constitution Club in Delhi.

The Congress Working Committee is also set to meet on September 29 to plan the party's strategy on the matter. The opposition has raised concerns about the functioning of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR process.

In a notable step, Banerjee spoke with CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby, marking rare contact between the two Bengal rivals. If confirmed, the September 30 meeting will test whether the opposition can mount a joint response on electoral issues.
