India’s men’s cricket team advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026 without bowling a ball, after their quarter-final against Afghanistan was abandoned without a toss due to persistent rain and a waterlogged outfield at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin on September 28.

Under the tournament’s knockout regulations, an abandoned match sends the higher-seeded team through, with seedings determined by the ICC T20I rankings. India, ranked No. 1 in the world, progressed at the expense of 10th-ranked Afghanistan. It is the second successive Asian Games in which Afghanistan’s campaign ended in a washout against India, after the 2023 Hangzhou final was also abandoned.

India, led by Shreyas Iyer, will face Sri Lanka in the second semifinal on October 1 at the same venue, after the Sri Lanka-Nepal quarter-final was also washed out. Pakistan advanced to the other semifinal past Hong Kong China on seeding and will meet the winner of the Malaysia-Bangladesh quarter-final.
