India, West Indies Fined for Slow Over Rate in 3rd ODI

India and the West Indies have both been sanctioned by the ICC for slow over rates in the third ODI at Mullanpur. India were found four overs short and fined 20 per cent of their match fees, while the West Indies were two overs short and fined 10 per cent.
Match referee Prakash Bhatt imposed the penalties under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. Players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their side falls short of the target.
The sanction adds a sour note for India despite winning the series 2-1. Shai Hope's unbeaten 162 had earlier denied the hosts a clean sweep, as the West Indies chased down 352 in the final game.
Both captains pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanctions, so no formal hearing was needed. Over-rate penalties have become a recurring issue in ODIs, with the ICC tightening enforcement in recent seasons. Teams will need to quicken their pace with a busy calendar ahead.
