Shafali Verma’s 49-ball ton powers India into Asian Games final

Shafali Verma smashed her maiden T20I century to power India into the gold medal match at the Asian Games, describing the innings as a childhood dream come true.

The 22-year-old opener struck an unbeaten 100 off just 49 deliveries in the semifinal against Bangladesh at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on September 20. Her innings featured nine sixes and three fours as India posted 195 for 3 and won by 114 runs.

Verma became the first woman to score a century in Asian Games cricket, and her 49-ball ton ranks as the joint-fourth-fastest women’s T20I hundred ever recorded.

“It was a childhood dream that whenever I debut for the Indian team, I score a 100,” Verma said in a video released by the BCCI. “I made my debut in 2019 and since then I have been manifesting that I want to score a 100 in T20Is.”

India went on to defend their Asian Games title, with Verma finishing the tournament as one of its standout performers.
