Gill’s 223 powers India’s record 406 chase against West Indies

Shubman Gill produced one of the greatest ODI innings of all time as India chased down 406 to beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the second ODI in Guwahati on September 30.
Gill remained unbeaten on 223 off 133 balls, hitting 26 fours and eight sixes. He reached his double century in just 117 balls, the fastest in ODI history, and his innings is the highest individual score ever made in an ODI chase.
Rohit Sharma gave him superb support with 101 off 75 balls, and the opening pair put on 255 runs for the first wicket. India completed the chase in 43.3 overs with 39 balls to spare.
Earlier, the West Indies had posted 405 for 7, their highest-ever ODI total, with John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) all scoring centuries. It was the first match in ODI history to feature five centuries.
The result gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It was only the second successful chase of 400 or more in men’s ODI history, after South Africa’s famous 438-run chase against Australia in 2006.
