India stood ninth in the Asian Games medal table on September 30 with 56 medals, including nine gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze.

Wednesday was India’s best day of the Games with three golds: Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai in trap mixed team, the women’s compound archery team, and Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav in compound mixed team.

Boxer Priya Ghanghas added a bronze in the women’s 60kg category after losing her semifinal to China’s Yang Chengyu.

Neeru, with two golds and a silver, became India’s most successful athlete at these Games.

Updated counts later in the day put India eighth with 10 golds and 60 medals overall, with four Wednesday golds powering the climb.

China led the table by a distance, followed by hosts Japan and South Korea in second and third.

Why it matters: with shooting and archery firing, India is on course for one of its strongest Asian Games finishes.
