Kamboj ‘slightly ahead’ in India’s bowling race: Chopra

Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes young seamer Anshul Kamboj is “slightly ahead” in India’s search for a bowling all-rounder ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
India have been looking for a seam bowler who can contribute with the bat at number eight. The role adds balance to the side in one-day cricket. Kamboj, a tall pacer from Haryana, has impressed with his ability to move the ball and hang around with the bat.
Chopra said Kamboj’s domestic performances and recent exposure to international cricket give him an edge over other contenders. The 2027 World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, where conditions usually help fast bowlers.
With senior seamers ageing, the management has been rotating young quicks through the squad. Kamboj’s selection for recent series shows he is firmly in the selectors’ plans. Chopra feels the competition for the all-rounder’s slot will only get tighter as the tournament nears.
