Section 163 in New Delhi, 11 metro stations shut

Delhi Police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita across the New Delhi district on October 2.
The order came ahead of a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Student groups AISA, SFI and DYFI have called for his resignation over the SIR exercise.
The order restricts gatherings of five or more people, processions and dharnas without prior written permission. Carrying firearms, sticks, swords and other dangerous objects is barred.
DCP Sachin Sharma said Section 163 is in force and appealed to people to follow the law. Security was raised at Jantar Mantar with police personnel and water cannons deployed.
Entry and exit at eleven metro stations were closed until further notice. The stations include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, INA and New Delhi.
Interchange facilities remained available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat stations. Delhi Police said no permission was given for the march.
