EC Extends SIR Voter List Dates in AP, Meghalaya

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday extended the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, schedule for electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya. In Andhra Pradesh, the disposal of claims and objections will now continue until October 10. The final voter list will be published on October 16. In Meghalaya, the final voter list will be published on October 26. The decision was taken at a full Commission meeting at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi on September 30. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi attended. It was the second full-bench meeting in four days. Officials cited pending hearings linked to no-mapping and logical discrepancies, along with unresolved Forms 6, 7 and 8 applications. In Meghalaya, more than 90 per cent of hearings were already complete. The extension comes days after the Commission deferred the SIR schedule in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Haryana and Punjab. The Commission described SIR as a participatory process involving voters, political parties and election officials.
