Monsoon to Exit Himachal; Rain Likely Oct 5-6

The southwest monsoon is set to withdraw from Himachal Pradesh within the next two to three days. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla said conditions have become favourable for the retreat. The monsoon entered the state on June 30 and stayed active for about 93 days. Weather is expected to stay clear from October 1 to 4. Then a fresh western disturbance is likely to become active on October 5 and 6. It may bring light rain to the plains and mid-hill areas of Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Mandi, Shimla and Solan. The high-altitude districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur are likely to stay dry. Nights have turned cold in the higher reaches. Tabo recorded the state’s lowest temperature at minus 3 degrees Celsius. The state’s minimum temperature was 0.4 degrees below normal. Separately, the India Meteorological Department said the monsoon should withdraw from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh within 48 hours of October 2. Rainfall is forecast over these areas again on October 6 and 7.
