Delhi Gets Rs 1,789 Crore AI Traffic Management System

The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System for Delhi.
The project will cover 42 corridors with 1,092 adaptive signal locations and 1,029 enforcement points.
Cameras will detect speeding, red-light jumping, wrong-way driving, mobile phone use and helmet violations. Delhi Police will implement the system over 24 months.
Officials say adaptive signals will adjust timings to real traffic flow. The plan aims to cut congestion and road deaths.
Delhi is among the world’s most congested cities. The system will feed data to a central control room.
Challans will be issued automatically for violations. Transport experts welcomed the move but urged better pedestrian safety too.
The system will use AI cameras to spot violations and issue e-challans automatically. Officials said the 24-month rollout will start with the busiest corridors. The project also includes a command centre for real-time monitoring. Delhi Police said public awareness drives will run alongside.
