OpenAI Unveils Dots, Always-On AI Agents at DevDay

OpenAI has launched Dots, a new line of always-on AI agents, at its DevDay event on September 29.
The agents run on the GPT-6 Astra model and work inside ChatGPT, Slack and Teams. Each Dot gets its own cloud computer and browser, plus access to more than 4,000 app plugins.
The company says Dots can handle long-running tasks without supervision. A Pro subscription at $100 a month includes one Dot.
The launch puts OpenAI in direct competition with Meta’s new Muse agents. Developers can build custom Dots for their teams.
OpenAI says the agents remember context across sessions. Privacy controls let users limit what a Dot can access.
The company did not give a timeline for wider availability. Analysts say always-on agents are the next big AI battleground.
OpenAI demonstrated Dots handling email, scheduling and research tasks on their own. The company said each agent runs in a secure cloud environment. Businesses can connect Dots to internal tools through plugins. OpenAI said usage limits will apply to prevent runaway costs.
