Cabinet raises mustard MSP to Rs 6,613 per quintal

The Union Cabinet has raised the minimum support price of rapeseed and mustard by Rs 413 to Rs 6,613 per quintal. The new price applies to the 2027-28 rabi marketing season.
The hike is 6.7 percent over the previous MSP. The decision was taken on September 30, 2026.
Lentil MSP rises by Rs 390 to Rs 7,390 per quintal. Wheat gets a smaller hike of Rs 25 to Rs 2,610, under 1 percent.
MSP is the price at which the government buys crops from farmers. Higher MSPs raise farm incomes and guide sowing choices.
The mustard hike is the steepest of the three. It signals a push to cut India’s heavy dependence on imported edible oils.
India imports a large share of its cooking oil. Higher mustard prices aim to make oilseed farming more attractive.
The wheat hike is modest. Wheat is already widely grown, and the government is watching food inflation.
The new prices will shape the rabi sowing that begins after the monsoon.
