Women form 43% of Ayush workforce, says ministry

Women account for 43 percent of India’s Ayush services workforce, according to a new government report. In several organised segments, their share crosses 50 percent.
The Ayush Service Sector Report, prepared by the Research and Information System for Developing Countries, was released on Ayurveda Day 2026. It values the Ayush services economy at $36.92 billion in 2024-25, growing at nearly 17 percent a year since 2022-23.
The sector supports an estimated 1.76 million livelihoods across healthcare, wellness, education and allied services. Women make up more than 60 percent of the workforce in spas and wellness resorts, 58 percent in educational institutes, 57 percent in day-care centres and 53 percent in hospitals.
Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav said the sector is creating meaningful jobs and opening avenues for entrepreneurship, skilling and women’s participation.
The report projects the sector could grow to between $216 billion and $318 billion by 2047.
Ayush covers Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. The report also counted allied services such as manufacturing, education and tourism. Industry leaders said the wellness segment is growing fastest.
