Woman with Down syndrome becomes certified fitness instructor

Aubry Alldredge, a 22-year-old woman with Down syndrome from Kaysville, Utah, is the first person with Down syndrome to become a certified UpBeat Barre instructor. She recently led her debut class in front of more than 60 people.
UpBeat Barre is a workout that blends cardio, strength training, Pilates and yoga. Aubry spent years taking classes at VASA Fitness in Kaysville. She picked up the routines so well that she would sometimes turn around mid-class to teach the people behind her.
Her instructor, Jane Johnson, spotted her talent early. "She has an incredible brain," Johnson told KSL. "Aubry can learn choreography so fast, and she retains it."
During her first class, Aubry moved through the room giving high-fives and encouragement. "I love to be on stage. I love exercise," she said. "I want to help everyone feel included."
Johnson is now helping Aubry turn the certification into a full-time job at the gym. Her story is opening doors for more inclusive fitness spaces where everyone feels welcome.
