84 Neglected Dogs Find New Homes After Rescue

Almost all of the 84 dogs rescued from a filthy South Yorkshire home have found new families. The animals were saved from shocking conditions.
RSPCA officers, police and the local council removed the dogs, mostly springer spaniels, from a house in Tickhill near Doncaster on April 18 last year. Many rooms were covered in dirt and faeces from floor to ceiling.
The dogs had to be nursed back to health. Many had never walked on a lead. The charity says numbers spiralled because none of the dogs were neutered.
David Parkes, 61, a children’s social worker, was found guilty of three animal welfare offences on Sept. 29 after a trial at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court. He had denied responsibility for the animals. His wife Delphine, 60, and son Sam, 28, had pleaded guilty in January. All three will be sentenced on Dec. 9.
The RSPCA rehomed the dogs through its branch centres across the north of England. Adopters report the dogs are thriving. One owner says her rescue, Polly, is “high on life” and brilliant with children.
From squalor to sofas: a happy ending at last.
