20,000 Romanians build 3.1-mile table for sick children

About 20,000 people sat down at a single table stretching 3.1 miles through Bucharest, Romania, setting a Guinness World Record for the longest table made from recycled materials.
The “Uniting Table” ran 5,055 metres along Unirii Boulevard to Constitution Square. An official Guinness adjudicator certified the attempt on September 12.
The event was organised by the nonprofit Bloom The World. It was their second record — last year they built a 1.7-mile table in Alba Iulia with 10,000 people.
This year’s gathering also served as a fundraiser. It raised over $110,000 for Romania’s first children’s psychiatric hospital, which is set to open in 2027 and will treat conditions like depression, autism and ADHD.
The tables were built entirely from recycled materials. Organisers say they plan to recycle the materials again, this time into children’s furniture.
Children in Bucharest who need mental health care are currently treated in an outdated facility with crowded wards. The new hospital aims to serve 5,700 children a year.
