Nigeria Flamingos Win WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup
Nigeria’s Flamingos won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup in style on Sunday, beating Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire. The victory completed a perfect five-win campaign.
Captain Chidi Harmony set the tone with two first-half penalties in the 15th and 35th minutes. Oluebube Umejiaku extended the lead in the 67th minute, and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the rout in the 90th.
Nigeria scored 17 goals and conceded just two across the tournament. Coach Hakeem Busari’s side opened with a 5-0 win over Niger, beat Ghana 4-2, and then downed Burkina Faso and hosts Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 each.
“We are so proud of what we have achieved,” Harmony said. “It is not easy winning all five matches.”
The Flamingos, bronze medallists at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, now turn to the 2026 edition in Morocco. They are drawn in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland.
