Kyndal Ray Edwards reaches Rhode Island on 996-day walk

Kyndal Ray Edwards has walked into Rhode Island. The 33-year-old is 996 days into his walk across America. He has covered about 11,670 miles. He pushes a cart that reads You Matter.
He walks for mental health awareness and recovery. He carries more than 5,500 names of lost loved ones. People send him names of those lost to overdose and suicide. The names ensure they are never forgotten.
Edwards started four years ago in Jacksonville, Florida. He has worn through 26 pairs of sneakers. He will finish on October 27 at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine. It is the northernmost point of the lower 48 states.
He was an addict and served prison time. He tried to take his own life twice. He changed his life during a five-year sentence. Now his message is simple: you matter. Context: His walk shows that recovery is possible and hope can keep moving.
