Kainchi Dham May Cap Visitors After 50,000-Strong Rush

Uttarakhand authorities are considering tighter entry and crowd-management rules for Kainchi Dham after a massive rush over the weekend, when more than 50,000 visitors arrived in a single day.
The existing arrangements at the shrine can comfortably handle 20,000 to 25,000 people a day, less than half the weekend footfall. The administration is considering compulsory registration and a daily cap of around 20,000 to 25,000 visitors.
The Kumaon Commissioner has directed the Nainital District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to prepare a detailed plan. Access during peak periods may be restricted to visitors with prior bookings.
The surge follows the success of the film Hanuman Ansh, based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba. The film, made on a budget of Rs 2 crore, has reportedly crossed Rs 400 crore worldwide.
Director Vishal Chaturvedi has urged devotees to check ground conditions before travelling and suggested alternative sites connected to the saint.
