Jane Goodall honoured with global Hike for Hope walks

Supporters around the world are honouring primatologist Jane Goodall with the first annual Hike for Hope, one year after her death at age 91 in Los Angeles.
The Jane Goodall Institute USA is inviting people everywhere to spend time outdoors from October 1 through 4, by attending an organised hike or simply walking in their own neighbourhoods, People reported. Roots & Shoots, Goodall’s youth program, is hosting official events in cities including Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, Chicago and Portland.
“Jane’s work is not done and it is up to all of us to carry that forward,” said Anna Rathmann, executive director of JGI USA.
The institute also announced it had welcomed a second gorilla, Bili, to the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of the Congo. Bili was rescued from illegal traffickers in Nigeria in 2023 when she was just months old.
The gorilla’s new home shows Goodall’s legacy in action: every life saved inside the sanctuaries she built keeps her mission alive.
