India Women Defend Asian Games Cricket Gold, Beat Sri Lanka by 147
India’s women cricketers defended their Asian Games gold, thrashing Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at the Korogi Sports Park in Aichi. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat.
India posted 216 for 3 in 20 overs, the highest team total in Asian Games history. Smriti Mandhana led the charge with 79 off 45 balls, Shafali Verma made 48 off 29, and Richa Ghosh finished unbeaten on 49 off 22.
Sri Lanka’s chase never took off. They were bowled out for 69 in 15.4 overs. Deepti Sharma took 3 for 6, while Shafali, Shreyanka Patil and Sree Charani claimed two wickets each.
India had beaten the same opponents in the 2023 final in Hangzhou. The gold was India’s first of the 2026 Games. According to the latest medal tally, India now has four golds, including the 10m air pistol mixed team and both kabaddi titles, with 37 medals overall.
