More than 5,000 volunteers packed over one million meals at State Farm Arena on Saturday in the Atlanta Hawks' largest annual community service event.

The volunteers assembled 1,002,402 meals for families across metro Atlanta, filling 167,067 meal bags with more than 128,000 pounds of food. Hawks players Kingston Flemings, Asa Newell, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Jalen Wilson worked the packing lines alongside team and State Farm executives.

Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins, Congresswoman Nikema Williams and Atlanta City Council President Marci Overstreet also joined the day's effort. Distribution of the meals will be supported by U.S. Hunger, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank says one in seven Georgians faces food insecurity, including one in five children.

Over six years, the Hawks and State Farm have now helped pack more than 6.1 million meals. The event has grown into an annual Atlanta tradition of teamwork and giving back — and organizers say planning for next year is already underway.
