A Philadelphia couple's decision to foster a rescue dog for a single sleepover has turned into a permanent adoption. Hannah and Alex brought the dog home from the Providence shelter through its sleepover programme, which lets people take dogs home for one to three days to help them relax and get noticed. The dog was already house-trained, crate-trained and leash-trained, and the couple say the trial night went so well they could not bring him back. They adopted him and named him Milton. Shelter staff say brief stays lower dogs' stress and measurably improve their chances of adoption, with studies showing cortisol levels drop during sleepovers. Programmes like Providence's have spread across the United States as shelters look for ways to move animals into homes faster. For Milton, one night away from the kennel was all it took to find his family. The shelter says demand for the sleepover programme has grown as more families learn about it.
