Australia marked National Police Remembrance Day on 29 September 2026 with the addition of four fallen officers’ names to the National Police Memorial in Canberra. The engraved touchstone plaques bring the total number of officers honoured at the memorial to 836.

This year’s tributes are to NSW Police Sergeant Mark Bransgrove, Victoria Police Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, Victoria Police Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart and Western Australia Police Detective Senior Constable Maxine Bembridge. Thompson and de Waart-Hottart were fatally shot while serving a high-risk warrant at Porepunkah in August 2025.

Acting AFP Commissioner Ian McCartney told the service that the nation would always share the burden of grief with the families left behind. Services, marches and vigils were held across the country, including a candlelight vigil in Brisbane and memorial marches in Queensland. The day honours all police officers who have died in the line of duty, and flags were flown at half-mast at stations and memorials across the nation.
