12-year-old’s diaper drive collects 30,000 for Arizona families

A 12-year-old in Phoenix, Arizona, has collected 30,000 diapers for families in need. Sloan’s fifth annual Diaper Drive delivered the donation to Nourish Phoenix.
The truckload filled an entire U-Haul. It was one of the largest diaper donations the organisation has ever received.
Sloan started the drive when she was seven. She visited Nourish Phoenix with her mother to help pack food boxes. A tour of the facility showed her an empty shelf.
She learned the shelves held diapers. The organisation ran out of them quickly. “Mom, we should get some diapers and bring them back,” she said on the way home.
Her first drive collected about 7,000 diapers. She made it an annual tradition. This year she set a goal of 22,500 diapers. The community gave far more. About 30,000 diapers arrived.
There are no government assistance programs for diapers. Nourish Phoenix says diapers are among its most requested items. The drive helps families who must choose between diapers and other necessities.
