David Clarke, a 24-year-old New Yorker, spent 100 days cleaning the same city block in Washington Heights, and his neighbors joined in.

Clarke started with little more than trash bags, a grabber stick, and his phone. Frustrated by litter near his home, he announced on TikTok that he would clean the block on West 171st Street between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue every day for 100 days.

He filmed the work from day one. The account went viral as the block slowly changed. By day 100, Clarke had also planted native plants in fenced beds around the sidewalk trees.

The project grew beyond one person. Neighbors began picking up litter beside him. Local businesses donated plants, lumber, and equipment. Clarke said the effort showed him that litter was tied to community pride.

He now plans to expand the work into education and beautification projects for New York families this fall.
