A 12-year-old from Phoenix has delivered nearly 30,000 diapers to families in need, one of the largest diaper donations her local charity has ever received.

Sloan spent her summer collecting diapers for Nourish Phoenix, filling a U-Haul with boxes for families across the community. The charity helps families with food, clothing, hygiene products and job assistance, and says diapers are among its most requested items.

Unlike food, there are no government assistance programs specifically designed to help families afford diapers, making donations like Sloan’s especially valuable. A child can use thousands of diapers before being potty trained, at a cost of around $100 a month.

This was not her first drive. Sloan has volunteered with Nourish Phoenix since she was seven. Her first diaper drive collected about 7,000 diapers, and five years later her annual “Sloan’s Diaper Drive” has grown into a community-wide movement powered by family, friends and supporters.

Sloan helped stock the charity’s shelves herself as the donation arrived, showing that helping others is always worth the effort.
