A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to large parts of India on Monday. The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts across about 20 states as the system moves inland.

The depression is centred over south Odisha and adjoining north coastal Andhra Pradesh, tracking north-northwestwards. It will pass through Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, bringing gusty winds of 50 to 65 kmph.

Very heavy rainfall is forecast for Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Vidarbha, according to Nation Press. The IMD has put parts of Jharkhand under an orange alert.

Delhi-NCR will see generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain through September 29. Fishermen along the Odisha and West Bengal coasts have been advised to stay ashore as sea conditions remain rough.

Residents in affected areas should avoid waterlogged zones and follow local administration advisories as the system weakens over the next two days.
