Hurricane Isaias to Hit Florida Tonight as Major Category 3 Storm

Hurricane Isaias is bearing down on the Florida Panhandle. Forecasters expect it to make landfall Friday evening as a major Category 3 hurricane.
The National Hurricane Center said winds had reached 120 mph by Friday morning. Isaias is expected to hit land near Pensacola with sustained winds of at least 111 mph. Its center was forecast to be about 30 miles south of Pensacola Beach at 7 p.m. ET.
Life-threatening storm surge is the biggest danger. Water could rise up to 9 feet from the Alabama-Florida border to Grayton Beach. Forecasters also predict 4 to 8 inches of rain, with up to 15 inches in parts of the Panhandle.
Tropical storm-force winds will spread from New Orleans to Tallahassee. Inland tropical storm watches reach as far as Birmingham, Alabama. Tornadoes are possible along the coast.
The storm is moving at 16 mph. Alabama’s game against Georgia on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa will go ahead as planned, though ESPN moved its College GameDay broadcast indoors.
Isaias is the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season. It would be the first US hurricane landfall since Hurricane Milton in October 2024.
