Delhi University has suspended three law students over an alleged assault on a teacher during campaigning for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. The students have also been barred from campus.

Separately, faculty members of Motilal Nehru College (Evening) have gone on an indefinite strike. The staff association is protesting the alleged assault on a teacher, along with hooliganism and trespassing on September 16, the last day of campaigning.

Academic work at the college has been suspended from the teachers’ side. The association says the strike will continue until its concerns are addressed. Teachers from other DU colleges have expressed solidarity.

DUSU polling was held on September 18 and counting took place on September 19. The dispute has continued even after the election process ended.

Teachers’ representatives said CCTV footage of the incident is available. All allegations are yet to be verified through the official process, and the university has not yet issued a detailed statement.
