IMD issues rain alert for 10-plus states, snow in hills

The India Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for more than ten states as an active western disturbance moves over north India.
Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may receive rain on October 8 and again on October 10. Higher reaches could see light snowfall, with Anantnag, Pulwama and Doda among the districts likely to be affected.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to get intermittent light to moderate rain through October 10. Shimla, Manali, Kullu and Dehradun are on the watchlist.
The plains will feel the effect too. Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh may see scattered rain with thunderstorms around October 10.
In Delhi on Wednesday, the sky is likely to stay partly cloudy. The maximum temperature is expected between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, and the minimum between 21 and 23 degrees.
Himachal Pradesh has already reported hail in some areas this week. Commuters should allow extra travel time during heavy showers.
