Manas National Park reopened to tourists on October 2. The reopening marks the start of Assam’s 2026-27 wildlife tourism season. The park closes each monsoon, from June to September.

Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Project Tiger reserve and a biosphere reserve. It sits in the Himalayan foothills along the Bhutan border. It is home to the Royal Bengal tiger, Asian elephant and one-horned rhinoceros. Rare species include the clouded leopard, golden langur and pygmy hog. The park has over 500 bird species.

Jeep safaris, elephant safaris and guided nature walks have resumed. River rafting on the Manas River is also available. Visitors should check range-wise weekly closures before planning.

The Bhuyanpara range closes on Thursdays. Bansbari closes on Tuesdays. Panbari closes on Fridays. Kuklung closes on Wednesdays.

Kaziranga National Park reopens on October 3. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary follows on October 13, the Chief Minister’s Office said. Environment Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah invited wildlife lovers to visit. Kaziranga recorded 4.58 lakh visitors in 2025-26, up from 4.22 lakh the previous year.
