Chikitha-Sahil Win Shoot-Off Thriller, Seal LA28 Quota
Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav won a dramatic shoot-off to claim the compound mixed team gold at the Asian Games in Okazaki on Wednesday.
The final against South Korea’s Park Jungyoon and Choi Yonghee ended level at 157-157. In the shoot-off, India scored 20 to Korea’s 19 to take the title.
It was Chikitha’s second gold of the day after she starred in the women’s compound team triumph earlier.
The win also secured India a quota place for the compound mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where the discipline will make its Olympic debut.
India became the first country to qualify for the compound mixed team event at LA28, according to reports.
President Droupadi Murmu and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated the pair on the victory under pressure.
Why it matters: the gold was India’s eighth of the Games and confirmed the country’s complete dominance of Asian compound archery.
